Sloan Urry Claims Top Step on Podium at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

SONY DSC

Loveland, CO – Sloan Urry and JDX Racing landed north of the border to compete in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama, the Series' only Canadian scheduled race. After missing the podium at “The Glen” for the first time in 2014, Sloan bounced right back to grab top honors in the first round of the weekend by winning the 45-minute sprint race in impressive fashion.

JDX Racing took advantage of the promoter test day and rolled the #20 JDX Racing/Hertz Racing Porsche out on the 10-turn, 2.459 mile Canadian Tire Motorsport Park race circuit on Wednesday. Additional track time in multiple sessions on Thursday gave JDX race engineer, Luke Goldenstein, the opportunity to hand over a setup ideal for the iconic high speed road course. Sloan Urry managed to run in the top 5 in both practice sessions, later qualifying the car P4, only .160 seconds off the pole.

At the start, Urry made quick work of Michael Lewis with an outside pass in turn one. By the end of lap one he had passed the second place car of Angel Benitez with a bold outside pass at the fifth gear, turn eight. At this point Sloan set his sights on pole sitter and race leader, Jesse Lazare, and at the 12 minute mark, again, made that same outside pass at turn eight – a 120 mph sweeper at the end of the Mario Andretti straight. Following that opportunistic pass, Sloan managed to pull away, claiming his first race win of the season and third of his career in impressive fashion. It was the largest winning margin to date in 2014, claiming the checkered flag with a 12.966 second gap to the second place finisher. The second round of the weekend was much more competitive, with Sloan running most of the race in the top four. A small late race mistake and light contact with the wall damaged the drive shaft causing the JDX car to slip back in the field. Sloan managed to limp the car across the finish line in 8th.

Following the race win Sloan Urry commented, “It's a great feeling. These guys have worked hard all season – the car came off the truck fast and we were in it from the start of the weekend. I worked my way past Michael and Angel all while keeping Jesse in range. I set Jesse up the lap previous to the pass in turn 8, I was just waiting for him to defend the inside after the long back straight run and when he did it again I was all over the outside move. The car just stuck to the race surface, a high speed right-hander in 8, which gave me the inside apex to 9, it takes full commitment to go on the outside in that corner and Luke gave me the confidence with this car to do it”.

Team co-owner, Harrison Brix said “We executed our plan perfectly with the first race. The crew set this car up for success and Sloan made a statement in the first round of the weekend. The #20 car was the quickest car out there and Sloan kept looking forward and made it his race. We claimed some good points this weekend but our work will continue as we are now at the halfway point of the season, there is a lot more racing ahead”.

The green flag for Round 11 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama 2014 season flies at 7:05 PM EST on Saturday, August 9th at Road America, followed by Round 12 Sunday, August 10th, at 10:50 AM EST. The cancelled round 6 race from Lime Rock Park will follow on Sunday at 5:45 PM EST.

JDX Racing Leaves Lime Rock on a High Note After Claiming Third Podium of the Season

Loveland, CO – Sloan Urry returned to true racing form in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Series at Lime Rock Park - collecting his third podium of the season and claiming third place in the fifth round of the 2014 race campaign. Round six was a washout, as the skies opened and the IMSA race stewards declared the race abandoned, due to unsafe conditions. At press time, a make up venue and date for round six has yet to be announced.

JDX Racing landed at Lime Rock along with the wet weather on Thursday morning. Following two short practice sessions and qualifying on Friday, Sloan managed to qualify the #20 JDX Racing/Hertz Porsche in 6th position, only three tenths off pole.

The 27 car field rumbled to turn one after the drop of the green flag, and Sloan muscled the #20 JDX Racing/Hertz Porsche cleanly through turn one with a bold outside pass in the 180 degree “Big Bend”, managing to grab one position by the time he arrived at turn three. Keeping pace with the lead pack was the primary focus and Sloan did just that, though he was not 100% happy with the balance of his Porsche. A mid race full course caution brought the entire field of cars back together and allowed Sloan to adjust his technique in a few minor areas – and in such a way to extract every last ounce of performance from his car. Following the restart with approximately 20-minutes remaining, the #20 car settled in and was running fast laps, gaining ground on the leaders. Sloan remained patient and took advantage of a combination of lapped traffic and some aggressive / opportunistic driving, to move his car from sixth position to third. Not only did that move place him on the podium but it also awarded him the Yokohama “Hard Charger Award” for the race. Sloan continued to gain on the two cars ahead, but ran short of time and scored his third podium of the 2014 campaign.

Sloan Urry commented, “It had been four years since I last raced at Lime Rock and it was definitely a wild ride, including wheelies over the up-hill every lap. Qualifying didn't go my way - I was only able to grab P6, but had the car to do better. Race one had some tough and close battles for sure. The race went yellow around the 25-minute mark, and once we went back to green, the JDX car seemed to come in and I had the fastest car on track. I managed to gain two positions as the cars in-front of me got tangled up in their own battle in turn six. I was really looking forward to round six, but the stewards made the right call by cancelling the race - the track conditions were narly”.

Team co-owner, Harrison Brix said “Sloan did a great job this weekend. Lime Rock is a deceptively fast track, with an average lap speed of up to 105 mph on the 1.5 mile track, turning in lap times in 53 seconds flat. Sloan executed the plan precisely, he saw the two cars ahead of him, they opened the door and took those two positions, he raced smart and continued his march towards the championship”.

The green flag for Round 7 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama 2014 season flies at 3:10 PM EST on Friday, June 27th at Watkins Glen International Raceway, followed by Round 8 Saturday, June 28th, time TBA.

Podium Finish at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for Sloan Urry and JDX Racing

Loveland, CO – Sloan Urry was back behind the wheel of the #20 JDX Racing/Hertz Porsche at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the third and fourth rounds of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Series. Sloan managed his second podium in as many races claiming second place in the third round of the early season. Round four wasn't as kind to the young but seasoned racer from Salt Lake City, Utah, as Sloan endured a difficult afternoon in the second race of the weekend.

JDX Racing arrived to Laguna Seca with a brand new Livery for the #20 JDX Racing/Hertz Porsche. Taking advantage of the promoter test day and two practice sessions, the team managed to engineer the car to Sloan's liking. Sloan started the race weekend off right by qualifying the car in third for the first race and second position for the late race on Sunday – missing pole by less then a tenth of a second.

In customary GT3 Cup fashion the rolling start proved advantageous for the #20 JDX car as Sloan got a good jump at the drop of the green flag and managed to seize second position from Angel Benitez as they cleared turn two. He continued to keep pace with the leader until a full course caution appeared early in the race. Once the track was cleared for green racing, Sloan dropped back to third in running order after the restart. Following official review by IMSA, the #05 car was assessed a drive through penalty for jumping the restart and Sloan reclaimed the second place position. A late race full course caution prevented Sloan from mounting a charge for the win, but claiming his second straight podium finish was a job well done.

The second race of the weekend wasn't as kind – starting second in the field Sloan managed to keep pace with the leader until midway through the race. An off track experience while avoiding a spun car, which was blocking the exit of turn two, found him brushing up against the tire barrier ever so slightly. Sloan managed to re-enter the race, however many positions had been lost and the car's alignment was out of place, hampering Sloan's chances of gaining back the lost positions. Sloan was able to finish the race claiming 14th in class, bringing the #20 JDX Racing/Hertz Porsche back to the paddock in one piece.

Sloan Urry commented, “I'm looking ahead to Lime Rock and putting this race weekend behind us. Even after claiming another podium finish for the guys at JDX, the last race of the weekend was a humbling experience. Everything about racing and claiming a series championship is being consistent and that's what I'm looking to do when we arrive at Lime Rock in three weeks. The guys worked hard on the car this weekend and we will get better results moving forward”.

Team co-owner, Harrison Brix said “We have all the right pieces in place to make a championship run. Sloan is like every racer – high standards and expectations of a podium finish in each race. We are looking forward to Lime Rock and looking for some clean racing on a track that is much less forgiving than Laguna”.

The green flag for Round 5 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama 2014 season flies at 12:35 PM EST on Saturday, May 24th at Lime Rock Park, followed by Round 6 at 5:10 PM EST later that day.

JDX Racing Arrives at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with a Stunning New Hertz Livery

SONY DSC

Loveland, CO – JDX Racing arrives at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca third in driver points following the first two rounds at the season opener of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Series held at Sebring International Raceway. Sloan Urry wheeled the #20 JDX Racing Porsche to a respectable sixth and third place finish in the first two rounds, capturing the team's first podium finish of the young 2014 Season.

JDX is competing in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Series for it's first full season and making its quest for a championship. Racing is all about performance and presence. So, JDX Racing is debuting a brand new Livery at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, which will surely be noticed as much as Sloan's race results. After asking its 100,000 plus JDX Racing fans on Facebook what they would like to see, the overwhelming response was GOLD!

Gold has been the foundation of each of the JDX Racing liveries over the last 4 race seasons. The Gold livery has performed so well in the past, it's continuing, but in a very bold manner in it's debut at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Team co-owner, Harrison Brix said “The last few seasons ‘The JDX Gold Car' was loved by the fans. At the track and based on what our Facebook fans and followers told us, it was clear we needed to stay close to our roots. Fittingly, this new livery is stunning – a natural evolution for JDX / Hertz Racing, and an appropriate nod to the performance heritage of Hertz Rent-a-Car”.

The green flag for Round 3 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama 2014 season flies at 9:00 AM PST on Sunday, May, 4th at Mazda Raceway, followed by Round 4 at 5:15 PM PST later that day.
