Home Sweet Home for Sloan Urry at Miller Motorsports Park

Costa Mesa, Calif. (18 August 2015) – When the Pirelli World Challenge visits Miller Motorsports Park this weekend, it'll be a bit of a homecoming for Sloan Urry, who drives the No. 02 SecurityNational Porsche in GT Cup presented by MOMO competition. The Salt Lake City native will not only have scores of family and friends on hand for the Supercar Grand Prix of Utah event, but there will also be a large contingent of SecurityNational guests hosted by Urry's TruSpeed Autosport team.

The double-header event at Miller Motorsports Park is one that Urry has been looking forward to as he returns to the site of where his racing career first began. He was first introduced to the world of racing when he participated in the track's Performance Driving School in 2010 and from that moment on, Urry was hooked.

“Miller Motorsports Park feels like home to me, it's where my career started,” reflected Urry. “It's a bit nostalgic for me. I started at the track's school and now I instruct at the school. I know the track pretty well because I've been around there a lot. I'm excited to come back home and put on a good show for the hometown crowd.”

Though Urry has a vast amount of experience at the 4.5-mile, 24-turn road course, it's been several years since Urry last competed at Miller. He's currently second in the Pirelli World Challenge GT Cup standings and is eager to add to his podium tally at the track that he is very familiar with.

Urry has already scored eight podium finishes this year which includes six runner-up results
.
“We've had a pretty solid season so far,” said Urry. “It's great to be on the podium and to consistently give SecurityNational positive results. I'm still chasing that first victory of the year and I can't think of any better place to achieve that, than at my home track. I'm really looking forward to it. We'll have hundreds of people from SecurityNational at the track so hopefully we can give them a good show!”

The hometown favorite has been tabbed to help promote the big event in his local market and has done several media interviews around Salt Lake City in the run up to the race weekend. Check out a couple of his interviews here:

Sloan Urry Delivers Another Podium Performance for SecurityNational at Mid-Ohio

Lexington, Ohio (2 August 2015) – Sloan Urry earned his eighth podium result of the year at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course over the weekend as the Pirelli World Challenge staged Rounds 12 and 13 of the 2015
championship. Driving the No. 02 SecurityNational Porsche, Urry delivered a third place finish in Race 1 and followed that effort up with a fourth place result in Race 2
on Sunday.

The standing start for Race 1 was waved off and so the race went green with a single-file restart. Urry took advantage of some shuffling at the drop of the green and moved up from his third place starting spot. As the race settled into a rhythm, he ceded the second place position to his TruSpeed/Kelly Moss teammate Colin Thompson and ran third in line until the finish.

“It was a crazy start – Colin (Thompson) had an issue on the start and everybody spread out so I got a little caught off guard by that,” said Urry. “Brett (Sandberg, TruSpeed teammate) and I were just running nose to tail trying to catch the leaders. After the last restart, our tires were covered in a lot of debris / pick up and all of us were just fighting to stay on the track. We wanted to be pushing up further to the front, but you have to take the podium when you get it.”

Sunday's race was more of an uphill battle for Urry, as he struggled a bit in the early running with the handling of his SecurityNational Porsche. He ran fifth for the majority of the race as he stayed right on the bumper of Lorenzo Trefethen who ran in fourth.

After a full course caution late in the race, the field was reordered and the first and second place GT Cup cars
were put on the lead lap while the remaining GT Cup field was scored a lap down. At that point, the highest position Urry could finish was third and after fighting for fourth lap after lap, he finally got by Trefethen to take the position in the race's final moments.

“The race didn't go as planned,” said Urry. “At the start I had a little bit of front end issues with pushing outside the last two corners. Brett (Sandberg) got by me in Turn 1 and Lorenzo (Trefethen) in Turn 2. The rest of the race I was all over Lorenzo and he was chopping me all over. I was much quicker than he was, so I was a little frustrated with that. I ended up getting by him and finishing fourth which is a respectable finish, but not where I wanted to be today.”

Urry will next be in Pirelli World Challenge action at his home track of Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 21-23.

“All in all it was a good weekend and we'll look forward to getting to the next event,” said TruSpeed Autosport Team Owner Tyler Tadevic. “We'll take our fourth place points and go on home and get ready for Miller. I'm a little disappointed in the officiating with the race. After the restart they reordered the field and gave first and second an additional lap. So the best we could go for at that point was third. A big shout out to all of our guests at SecurityNational Mortgage who came out to Mid-Ohio this weekend. I really appreciate everyone coming out and supporting the team. We look forward to some more support from them at our next event in Salt Lake City.”

The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course rounds will be televised on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, August 9 at 4:00 PM ET.

Sloan Urry Returns to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in SecurityNational Porsche

Costa Mesa, Calif. (28 July 2015) – The Pirelli World Challenge stages Rounds 12 & 13 of the 2015 GT Cup presented by MOMO Championship this weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Sloan Urry and the No. 02 SecurityNational Porsche enter the event third in the championship standings.

Looking to close the gap to teammate and championship leader Colin Thompson, Urry is eager for the double-header Mid-Ohio event. The track is another historic one on the Pirelli World Challenge schedule. The event features a big weekend of racing with IndyCar, Indy Lights, Pro Mazda, and F2000 also in action for a total of 11 races run during the weekend.

At 2.258-miles in length with 13 turns, the natural terrain road course offers elevation changes, high-speed and flowing corners, as well as tight corners which make the driver and fan-favorite track a challenging one.

And with 38 entries slated for the combined class GT-GTA-GT Cup event, it will be especially busy for Urry and his GT Cup competitors.

It's been a month since Urry was last in Pirelli World Challenge action at Road America in which he claimed his seventh podium result of the year. A late race battle in Race 2 ultimately saw the No. 02 SecurityNational Porsche miss out on a second place finish, and has Urry all the more hungry to return to competition this weekend.

“I have limited experience at Mid-Ohio but when I did race there, I really enjoyed it,” said Urry, who has competed at Mid-Ohio in Mustang Challenge competition. “It was at the beginning of my career when I drove Ford Mustangs and Mid-Ohio was my second professional race I had ever been in. The track presents a lot of challenges with the elevation changes and varying types of corners. When I raced there, I had to start from the back of the pack due to a post-qualifying DQ so I had a chance to really get a feel for how the track was in traffic (improved eight positions in the race). There are a handful of places to pass that make the track conducive to some really great racing. I'm excited to go back there with my SecurityNational Porsche and get reacquainted with the track and be ready to push to the front!”

The Pirelli World Challenge weekend gets underway with testing on Thursday followed by a late practice session Friday evening. Saturday features qualifying in the morning and Race 1 at 4:30 PM ET. Race 2 is set for Sunday at 11:50 AM ET.

Sloan Urry Scores Podium at Road America for SecurityNational

Elkhart Lake, Wis. (28 June 2015) – TruSpeed Autosport driver Sloan Urry scored his seventh podium of the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge season on Saturday at Road America when he drove to a second place finish in Race 1. Urry remained in podium contention throughout the entire 50-minute race to give SecurityNational its sixth runner-up result of the year.

Urry started Saturday's sprint race from second on the grid, but ceded one spot on an early restart to run in third after several cars got together ahead of him.

“The first part of the race was good,” said Urry. “I made a few mistakes trying to close the gap. My fault on that. On the restart, there was a bunch of contact happening, coming up the hill. I saw a bunch of smoke and people hitting the brakes and checking up. So honestly, I expected a wreck when I came over the top of the hill. I had a little bit of a St. Petersburg flashback (when contact took out several GT Cup competitors and significantly damaged his No. 02 Porsche) and decided to take the easy road, in terms of coming out of the throttle and seeing what was going on when I came over the hill. I wanted to take the safe route there, rather than risking another big hit to the SecurityNational car. Unfortunately, some of my other competitors went with the risky route and it paid off for them.”

Urry then fought to get the position back through the remainder of the race and ultimately made a pass stick on the final lap to take the second place spot.

“I had a little bit of a difficult time getting the position back because there were two cars pretty much blocking the track in front of me,” added Urry. “But I got it done on the last lap outside of Turn 1 which got me back up to second. I had no opportunity to go for the lead after that restart. But I was happy to fight back to second and get some good championship points.”

Race 2 on Sunday saw Urry once again start from the outside of the front row. The race immediately went yellow after three GT class machines stalled on the grid, preventing the GT Cup field from getting an initial green. Once the race got back underway there was just 37 minutes to run and Urry ran a brief stint in the race lead before settling into second throughout the first segment.

Upon the race's final restart, Urry slipped to third as the trio of second, third, and fourth place cars ran nose-to-tail in line. As the clock ran down and Urry received the white flag, he knew he had to make his move on the second place car of Udell who wasn't about to make it easy on him. Urry made a move in the final corner but got caught up in the marbles which sent the car off into the gravel trap.

It was a disappointing end in what had been a thrilling GT Cup race.

“I was really confident with my pace,” said Urry. “Alec (Udell) was right behind Colin (Thompson, race leader) and I just kind of followed him through. For the rest of the race, he was pretty much taking the inside line every time I showed for it which made it really difficult for me to get around him. I believe I had the pace to challenge Colin for the lead but unfortunately I couldn't get around Alec to get to him. I went for it in the last corner of the last lap. I was all over him but I got out in the marbles and unfortunately did not finish the race. I'm really disappointed for TruSpeed and SecurityNational and the guys that put all the effort into the race weekend. It's one of those ‘coulda, shoulda, woulda won the race' times but sometimes this stuff happens.”

Urry and the No. 02 SecurityNational Porsche will be back in action at the end of July at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

The Road America events will be televised on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, July 5 at 2:00 PM ET.
