Despite Challenging Track Conditions, Urry Earns Two Podium Finishes
More than 100,000 enthusiastic fans turned out this weekend at Road America, one of America’s best racetracks located in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The fans lined the fences along all four miles of the picturesque track and they were treated to phenomenal racing by the Pirelli World Challenge racers. Namely, “Young Gun” Sloan Urry, driver of the #20 SecurityNational Mortgage/Avasis/Porsche 991. Despite ever-changing track conditions and an unstable car, Urry remained focused on the task at hand and drove like a veteran, pressuring his nearest competitors when opportunities presented themselves. He finished second in both Porsche GT Cup races earning 196 points to his championship total. The track changed daily, first because of the rubber accumulation and hot temperatures after Indy Car practice on Friday and Saturday. Sunday it was different yet again because of torrential rains through the night on Saturday and into Sunday morning. Sloan worked diligently with his engineer, Tim Lewis to balance the car for the ever-changing conditions, a challenging task on a predictable track, and similar to finding a needle in a haystack in changing conditions. The two second place finishes were the result of Urry’s smart and consistent performance. Once again the TruSpeed team prepared a reliable car, executing the maximum laps in all sessions. The team returns to their California headquarters to prepare for rounds 13 and 14 July 28th at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Mansfield, Ohio.

Sloan Urry on Race Two: “There were thunderstorms when I headed to the track this morning, so I am thankful we were able to run a full race and that the weather cleared up for the incredible fans out there today. The attendance here at Road America this weekend has been awesome and it’s great to race in front of such an enthusiastic crowd. Unfortunately, the changes we made to the car for today’s race didn’t really go our way and we fought an unbalanced car. It’s a little frustrating because I had high expectations after yesterday’s race. There were a few occasions out there where I got a look inside Alec, but wasn’t able to make the pass in the end. We’re still leaving here with a double podium and a lot of points. We’ve got a few weeks now to continue working on the car and to find a few more tenths before Mid-Ohio next month. I am looking forward to taking the SecurityNational Mortgage/Avasis car back to the top-step of the podium there.”
Sloan Urry on Race One: “Second wasn’t too bad today considering we qualified third and we weren’t too confident with our pace coming into the race today. I’ve got to hand it to my Engineer, Tim (Lewis), he made a bunch of changes and did a great job finding us a better balance for the race today. We were right on Alec’s (Udell) tail the whole time, running a close pace. I wasn’t able to get a pass in, but we know were close and should be able to race the SecurityNational Mortgage/Avasis car hard tomorrow.”
