                                    Urry Victorious at Lime Rock, Tightens Championship Battle

Sloan Urry returned to the site of his first professional motor race, Lime Rock Park and returned to the top

step of the podium scoring his fourth victory of the season in race one on Saturday.  The team continued

their northeast swing travelling straight to Lakeville, Connecticut, the site of the legendary Lime Rock

Park Raceway from Ontario, Canada where they competed the weekend before.  Lime Rock is famous for

its speeds and track distance.  At just 1.5 miles it is one of the shortest road courses in America but

despite its length, it is known for its high speed corners and quick lap times.  Thunderstorms on Tuesday

challenged the team’s test plan, but despite the rain Sloan and the California-based squad maximized the

opportunity and successfully continued development of the #20 SecurityNational/Avasis/Porsche 991.

Competition began on Friday and Sloan dominated each session; he led practice, won the pole position

and controlled the race scoring another victory in addition to setting the fastest race lap which secured the

pole position for race two.

 

The temperatures soared on Saturday but a heavy dark cloud shadowed the paddock ahead of race two.

Bentley driver Andrew Palmer and Jorge De La Torres, driver of the no. 4 Aston Martin made contact in

practice resulting in a violent accident which left both drivers hospitalized.

 

Sloan led the field to the green flag from pole position in race two, and dominated through the first

quarter of the race. The scorching track temperatures led to slippery track conditions and a traffic jam as

the GT class race leaders forced their way through the GT Cup field, forcing Sloan off-line, over the

rumble strips and even off track allowing his race win to slip away.  Despite the circumstances, Sloan

recovered and raced to another second place podium finish.

Sloan on winning race one: “My team just absolutely killed it this week.  It’s not easy racing back-to-back double headers with a test in the middle and they’ve done a great job.  We came off the trailer really fast and we won the pole and were able to lead from the get-go and never look back.  Thankfully we had a huge margin because I made a mistake there at the end, but the gap was big enough where we could still retain the lead.  It’s been tough these last few races with my injury. I’m just really happy for my team TruSpeed Autosport, and my sponsors SecurityNational Mortgage and Avasis, it’s our fourth win of the season and we’ll be looking for more.”

 

Sloan on race two: “I had a good car, but it was incredibly warm out there today and I think we probably could have gone a little further with the car set up to accommodate the heat, it was a struggle.  We had a good start from pole, but I am surprised by the…for lack of a better word “courageous” moves the GT leaders used today.  They literally pushed me off track and cost me the lead.  It’s disappointing, I am extremely conscientious of their race battle but there wasn’t any respect out there today.  I guess this is what happens on a small track.  It was a good weekend overall, we scored a lot points and the extra points for pole can make or break a championship.  I want to send my best wishes out to Andrew Palmer and Jorge De La Torre and their teams and families and also to the veterans on this Memorial Day weekend.”

 

Team Owner, Tyler Tadevic on the Weekend: “We knew it was going to be a tough and tight battle for this championship and it’s proving to be the case.  We finished the weekend with two poles, a win and a second, Sloan and the TruSpeed boys did a great job.  In race two today, we left a little on the track.  Sloan got caught up in traffic and the GT leaders, Alvaro Parente and Patrick Long put us in a compromised position which left the door open for Alec (Udell), he made an aggressive move and got it done.  That’s part of Sports Car racing…the multiple classes and the challenges of it, but we were on the wrong end of it today.  Overall though, we learned a lot and made a lot of improvements this weekend and we’re looking forward to Road America next month.”
