The Pirelli World Challenge Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio kicked off with the traditional test day on Thursday, featuring two 30-minute sessions.   Sloan and the TruSpeed team have battled oversteer all season with their 2016 Porsche 991, so they brought back the Porsche Sloan raced in 2015 to see if that car would be quicker.  It was.  Sloan and his TruSpeed Autosport team decided to enter last year’s car for competition at Mid-Ohio.  A torrential downpour and lighting storm cancelled the practice session Friday afternoon, so Sloan’s first opportunity to compete with the sapphire blue beauty came during qualifying on Saturday, where he was second quick.  Just a few hours later he took the green flag for race one, he had a great start and quickly passed points leader Alec Udell for first position.  Unfortunately, the first few laps were similar to a demolition derby further up the track in the GT field, forcing Sloan to swerve off track to avoid the wreckage, costing him two positions just as the yellow flag fell.  Two caution periods later, the field settled into a steady race pace.  Sloan re-took second position and raced Udell throughout the 30-lap event, shattering the track record with his best race lap and scored the pole position for Sunday’s race two.

The green flag fell for race two under sunny skies and the warmest temperatures of the weekend Sunday morning at Mid-Ohio.  Sloan started from pole but was unable to keep the race lead as he was challenged by understeer…Alec Udell seized the opportunity to get by.  Sloan kept Udell within site throughout the caution free race but never had the chance to challenge him for the race win.  He held a solid race pace to finish second and continued to strengthen his points tally toward the championship. Now, he turns his focus toward victory at his home race at that Utah Motorsports Campus in two-weeks time.

Sloan Reviews Race One: “It was a good first race here at Mid-Ohio.  I had a strong run at the start, I actually took the lead but had to go off track because the track was blocked, so I re-started back in third and eventually got to second.  Alec and I had a good battle going, we were constantly bettering each other’s best lap one after the other.   It was nice to win that battle and score the pole tomorrow with a new track record. I am confident we have a car to win tomorrow. We are starting on pole by I think a half of a tenth or so, so I am excited to try to get it on the top step tomorrow.”

Sloan Reviews Race Two: “It’s great to have the support of the SecurityNational Mortgage on site this weekend with our guests here cheering us on.  Race two today here at Mid-Ohio ended the same as race one with another second place finish. I’m disappointed that we didn’t have what we need to stay up front and finish on the top step of the podium.   We continued to score some valuable points, but we need to improve throughout the weekend and run stronger in race two.  I am looking forward to finding the performance we need for my home track in Salt Lake in a few weeks.  My guys did a great job this weekend, they gave me a car that I could race hard, but we just needed a bit more in the end.  That’s the way it goes sometimes in racing.”
