Sloan Urry Claims Top Step on Podium at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
July 15, 2014Sloan Urry and TruSpeed Autosport Take on Barber Motorsports Park
April 22, 2015Long Beach, Calif. (21 April 2015) – Sloan Urry was hoping to take his first win of the season at Long Beach on Sunday, and those hopes were heightened when the Engel & Volkers/SecurityNational Porsche ran strongly all weekend long. Unfortunately,Sunday’s Pirelli World Challenge race, which marked Round 5 of the 2015 championship, saw more attrition than it did green flag running and did not yield the results the team was capable of.
The street course format is a challenging one with the full 1.968-mile circuit held on the natural asphalt and concrete of the city streets and lined by concrete walls. There is little room for error through the streets of Long Beach among the 38-car World Challenge field and those tight confines created several caution periods which allowed for just seven laps of green flag running.
A large group of Engel & Volkers and SecurityNational guests were on hand for the big Grand Prix of Long Beach and had a bird’s eye view of the weekend’s events from high atop the Hyatt Hotel.
Urry opened the race from the front row and took over the race lead early. In the little bit of green flag running that there was, he ran in podium contention all the way until the final lap. But the traffic caught him out on the last lap of the race when in an effort to get out of the way of the faster GT class cars, the No. 02 machine spun.
“It’s just really frustrating because we’re here to race and we didn’t even really get to do any of that today,” said Urry of the race. “It’s pretty frustrating because there were such big bottlenecks. I had to make a move to get out of the way out of some other people and that ended my race. This race was just dictated by those that were around us today. I’m disappointed not to have put on a better show for everyone we had here at the race from Engel & Volkers and SecurityNational. The plus side is that the car is in one piece and we can just turn the page and focus on to Barber next week.”
TruSpeed Autosport and Sloan Urry will be back in action next weekend as the Pirelli World Challenge sees a quick turnaround and heads to Barber Motorsports Park next weekend. Testing for the Barber round begins on Thursday with the double-header races to take place on Saturday and Sunday.
CBS Sports Network will televise the Long Beach event on Sunday, April 26 at 3:30 PM ET.
