Home track for Costa Mesa’s TruSpeed Autosport
Costa Mesa, Calif. (14 April 2015) – The Pirelli World Challenge is back in race action this weekend for Round 5 of the 2015 Championship through the streets of Long Beach, California. Sloan Urry will drive the No. 02 Engel & Volkers Porsche for TruSpeed Autosport in GT Cup presented by MOMO competition for the Costa Mesa-based team’s home race.
The Grand Prix of Long Beach will mark Urry’s first appearance at the historic street course which encircles the Long Beach Convention Center and runs down scenic Shoreline Drive. The 1.968-mile, 12-turn circuit features numerous passing opportunities including the classic hairpin turn just before the front stretch.
Urry, who has finished second in three of the first four races, sits third in the championship standings and will look to build on those positive results with another strong outing this weekend.
In the two weeks since St. Pete, TruSpeed Autosport has worked relentlessly to get the No. 02 Engel & Volkers Porsche back in prime race form after it was heavily damaged in a crash in Round 3.
“First of all, a huge thank you to the TruSpeed guys for getting this car back together,” said Urry. “They put forward a massive effort to have this car ready in time for Long Beach. It was a huge undertaking so thank you to everyone on the team. I’m really excited for Long Beach because it’s one of the biggest street course events in the country. A lot of big racing names have raced there and they’ve had a lot of great races. It’s known around the United States as one of the most exciting races in the country and it’s just an honor to be able to race there. It’ll be my first time there so hopefully we’ll just hit the track hot and be able to figure out the track quickly and put the car up front like we want to.”
TruSpeed Autosport will host a large crowd of Engel & Volkers and SecurityNational guests at the home track and is looking forward to the weekend through the streets of Long Beach in front of the hometown crowd. It will be an even bigger event this weekend with friends and family of TruSpeed Autosport team owner Tyler Tadveic as well as the rest of the TruSpeed team on hand for the home race.
“It’s great to have the guests from Engel & Volkers and SecurityNational, they put on a great event for everybody that comes and they support us to get us to the track,” added Urry. “It’s been a great partnership and hopefully we can continue to build this on to even bigger and better things. Long Beach is a great event for everyone to be there – it’ll be exciting for sure.”
Tadevic echoed Urry’s enthusiasm that the excitement of Long Beach brings.
“It’s our home track, we all get to go home and sleep in our own beds at night,” said Tadevic. “I’ll have a lot of family and friends there. We’ve traditionally had pretty good luck at Long Beach as well so we’re super stoked about it. We’ll have a big activation program at the track with SecurityNational and Engel & Volkers. We’ll be doing a big car show on Sunday at the Grand Prix as well. Long Beach is always a big deal, we’re really, really excited about it.”
It’ll be a quick weekend for Urry and the No. 02 Engel & Volkers Porsche with just three on-track sessions ahead of the race. A 45 minute practice will be heldon Friday afternoon with a half-hour qualifying session set for Saturday morning. A 15 minute warm-up will take place Sunday morning with the race set to go green at 4:30 PM local time.
